A collaboration between Angèle and Amelie Lens might not have been the most obvious pairing on paper, but “Run” proves just how naturally pop and techno can meet. The two Belgian artists have joined forces for a track that brings Angèle’s distinctive vocals into Lens’ high-energy electronic world. After making its surprise live debut at Dour Festival in July, “Run” is officially out today, giving listeners their first full taste of this unexpected meeting between two of Belgium’s most internationally recognized artists.
The story behind “Run” began with a surprise.
On July 16, Amelie Lens was closing her set at Dour Festival when Angèle suddenly appeared on stage. Around 2 a.m., the singer joined the techno DJ to perform the previously unreleased track for the first time, turning the moment into one of the festival’s biggest surprises.
The collaboration brings together two artists who have each carved out very different spaces within the Belgian music scene. Angèle has become one of the country's biggest pop exports, while Amelie Lens has established herself as one of the leading names in contemporary techno.
On “Run,” those worlds meet through a fast, dance-driven electronic production designed to retain Lens’ club energy while giving Angèle’s vocals room to take center stage. The result sits somewhere between pop accessibility and techno intensity, creating a crossover that feels both unexpected and natural.
The track is particularly significant for Amelie Lens as it will appear on her upcoming debut album, AURA, scheduled for release on September 4 through her Exhale label. “Run” is also set to be the only featured collaboration on the album, making Angèle the project's sole guest artist.
For Angèle, meanwhile, the collaboration continues her recent exploration of electronic sounds. Following her work with Justice and her recent releases leading into her upcoming third album, Instinct, “Run” adds another electronic dimension to her evolving musical universe.
There is also something symbolic about the collaboration taking its first steps at Dour. Amelie Lens first performed at the festival in 2016, opening the Balzaal, before returning a decade later to close one of its biggest stages. Angèle has also maintained a strong connection with Dour throughout her career, making their surprise reunion on the festival stage an especially fitting moment.
Now that “Run” is officially available, the Dour surprise has evolved into the first chapter of a much bigger story, one that will continue with the release of AURA this September.
